Understanding Misophonia

Role: Scriptwriting, Visual Design, Motion Graphics, Sound Editing

For this animated infographic video, I explored Misophonia, a lesser-known condition where certain everyday sounds can provoke intense emotional or physical responses. I initially planned to focus on an animal-related topic, but while browsing the National Geographic website, I came across Misophonia and found it fascinating. It’s a topic that isn’t widely understood, yet it significantly affects many people’s daily lives. I wanted to use this opportunity to raise awareness and help others better understand the condition.

The animation is structured into three scenes:

Scene 1: Introduction to Misophonia
This section defines the condition and showcases common trigger sounds like chewing, pen clicking, and slurping. I used animated visuals paired with realistic sound effects to give the audience a better sense of how these sounds can impact someone with Misophonia.

Scene 2: Who is Affected
This part presents data on how common the condition is and how it varies across genders. I used animated charts and graphs to visualize this information in a clear and engaging way.

Scene 3: Coping Strategies and Awareness
The final scene focuses on ways people cope with Misophonia and emphasizes the importance of empathy and awareness. I used softer visuals and calming animations to support the tone of this message.

Design and Technical Highlights
I applied motion design principles such as easing and smooth transitions to maintain viewer engagement. The visual style is clean and consistent, allowing the message to come across clearly. Sound design played a key role, with effects and timing chosen to create both emotional impact and clarity. This project helped me grow both technically and creatively, combining illustration, animation, and storytelling to inform and connect with viewers.
